Project Management vs Change Management: Why Both Matter
In many organisations, the project plan, budget and timelines are approved long before anyone seriously considers the people side of the change. By the time resistance shows up, there is very little room left for the behaviour‑change work that actually determines success. At the same time, senior leaders are expected to sponsor the change without always understanding how to align their role with project management and change management efforts.
In this practical mini course, you will explore how project management and change management complement each other, using a simple aeroplane metaphor to make the concepts tangible. You will see why the change management plan needs to be developed with the project management plan in mind, why behaviour‑change activities must progress in alignment with project goals and outputs, and why leadership alignment with both disciplines is critical for sustainable success.
The course will take 20-30 minutes to complete and consists of 5 lessons with videos, knowledge checks, reflections and a quiz at the end.
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the difference between project management and change management in simple terms.
- Describe current, transition and future states and how they relate to value creation.
- Recognise why change management timelines often extend beyond project closure.
- Identify at least one action to better align leadership, project and change activities in your own context.
Please Note: You will have 30 days from the date of enrollment to complete this course.
